VIENNA ENTOMBMENT

BURIAL IN A VAULT

An entombment is much like a burial. However, the burial takes place not in an earthen grave but rather a stone-walled room which may be above the ground (a mausoleum) or below the ground (a tomb). The casket is also somewhat different – usually this will consist of a double casket that is hermetically sealed. The aim of an entombment is to preserve the body by excluding air.

Tomb caskets can be made from metal or hardwood. In both cases they will have an airtight, inner metal layer.

Entombment

An entombment in Vienna is very similar to a burial. It simply involves a stone-walled room rather than an earthen grave. The casket is also different – the casket will be either made from or lined with metal and must be completely airtight.
